What is Image-to-Video?

TL;DR

AI technology that adds motion to a still image to generate video. A single picture starts to move.

Image-to-Video: Definition & Explanation

Image-to-Video is AI technology that takes a single still image as input and adds natural motion to its subject and background to generate a short video. The AI fills in facial expressions, hair and clothing movement, camera pans and zooms, and background motion. Many tools let you specify the direction or content of motion with a text prompt, expanding uses such as animating each cut of a storyboard, turning product photos into video ads, and adding animation to illustrations. Video generators like Runway, Kling, Veo, and Sora include this capability and play a central role in storyboard-to-video workflows. Output length is still mostly a few to a dozen-odd seconds, and consistency and physical realism remain works in progress.
