What is Multi-Agent System?
TL;DR
A system where multiple AI agents collaborate and divide tasks to accomplish complex objectives.
Multi-Agent System: Definition & Explanation
A Multi-Agent System is an architecture where multiple AI agents, each with different roles or areas of expertise, coordinate and communicate with each other to accomplish complex tasks. For example, a software development workflow might involve separate agents for research, code generation, code review, and testing, all working in concert. Frameworks like CrewAI, AutoGen (Microsoft), and LangGraph can be used to build multi-agent systems. These systems excel at complex workflows that are difficult for a single agent to handle, or tasks that require diverse specialized knowledge. Interoperability between agents from different vendors is improving through Google's A2A (Agent-to-Agent) protocol and Anthropic's MCP. Full-scale enterprise adoption of multi-agent systems is expected to accelerate in 2026.
