AGI, by contrast, would be able to reason, learn, and adapt to novel problems much like a human. Major AI companies including OpenAI, Google DeepMind, and Anthropic have stated AGI as a research goal, and there is active debate about when it might be achieved. Realizing AGI involves not only technical challenges but also profound questions about safety, ethics, and societal impact.
